Arizona State University is a publicly funded research institution in Tempe, Ariz. The school boasts a student body of 72,254 (in 2011) and awards bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees both online and in a traditional setting. ASU’s programs and degrees are highly ranked by national publications including The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.


Arizona State University was founded in 1885 as the Tempe Normal School in what was then the Arizona Territory. Though originally devoted to secondary education, the school was eventually renamed and expanded from its initial campus in Tempe to include four locations throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. ASU is organized around 15 colleges and schools that offer 250 undergraduate and 100 graduate degrees.


Arizona State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. ASU’s individual schools and programs are also accredited by specialty organizations. The W. P. Carey School of Business, for example, is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) and the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law is accredited by the American Bar Association.


Arizona State University confers degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. ASU’s online division awards bachelor degrees in many business and technical-related fields. At the graduate level, the university offers an online MBA among its advanced study options. ASU also provides career-development certificate programs of interest to engineers, teachers and managers.

ASU Online: Graduate students must submit official transcripts showing at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA, a personal statement, letters of recommendation and the official test scores required by their particular program.
