Creighton U Launches First Online Degree –

Creighton University has announced it will offer its first fully-online bachelor’s degree, beginning January 2013.

The 128-credit Bachelor of Science in Integrated Leadership Studies, offered through Creighton’s University College for adult learners, will allow students to transfer up to 80 hours of credit to the program and earn credit for prior learning.

The degree program will be administered in eight-week terms. Students in the program will take coursework that draws on a variety of fields, with classes such as Theories of Leadership and Organizational Change; Leadership, Planning, and Project Management; and Ethical Dimensions of Leadership. Students can also choose from three specializations with the program: healthcare management, nonprofit sector management, and human capital management.

“Our degree focuses on the integrated and interdisciplinary nature of leadership studies, which requires leaders to be knowledgeable in a number of fields,” Gail Jensen, Creighton’s dean of University College and Graduate School, and associate vice president for research, academic affairs, said in a press release. “Creighton is leveraging the expertise and programs of our nine schools and colleges to offer multi-disciplinary courses from faculty from such diverse backgrounds as business, community and health care.”

Creighton University, based in Omaha, Neb., is a private, Jesuit, with Catholic roots. The school is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition to the new bachelor’s degree, the school also offers graduate programs in a variety of fields.
