Grand Canyon U Receives New Campus –

Private, Christian Grand Canyon University (GCU) will be gifted with a historic campus in western Massachusetts, spanning 217 acres.

The gift comes from the owners of the Hobby Lobby chain, who purchased the property three years ago. The owners, who spent several million dollars renovating the campus, wanted to transfer the property to a Christian educational institution to honor the late evangelist D.L. Moody, who founded the campus in 1879.

“As a supporter of Christian higher education across the United States, we hope this campus will provide a home for students to find their purpose in Christ and realize their full potential in life,” said Steve Green, president of Hobby Lobby, in a press release. “We look forward to seeing what the future holds for this historic campus and for this community.”

GCU plans to begin offering classes at the new campus in the fall of 2014. The Phoenix-based school is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and offers online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in several business concentrations.
