Find Your Energy and Boost Productivity –

When you’re feeling sluggish, it’s incredibly hard to get things done. How are you supposed to actually finish anything when all you want to do is take a nap? Of course, it all has to get done somehow, whether you’re feeling the mid-afternoon slump or not.

So how do you snap out of it and find your productivity zone for the day? It’s not as difficult as you might think. There are several quick ways to find an energy boost to get you through the day productively. Read on, and we’ll discuss how to set things straight in a hurry.

  • Go ahead and take that nap. Sure, napping is hardly synonymous with productivity, but studies have shown that a quick nap can actually boost your productivity and alertness. Just 30 minutes to an hour is all it takes to turn your afternoon around, so if it’s acceptable in your workplace, by all means, go for it!.
  • Get some exercise. If napping’s not in the cards for you, you can turn around and head in the exact opposite direction and get moving. It’s best if you start your day with exercise to wake up your body and brain, but if you need a quick pick med up at the office, a few spins around the building can help put things right.
  • Find your best energy times. We can’t be 100% all day. Some of us work best at the beginning of the day, others rally when the day is almost done. Pay attention to the pattern of your productivity for a few days to find out when you do your best work. Once you’ve identified it, really take advantage of that time so you can power through as much as possible before you slip into an energy dead zone.
  • Pay attention to your water intake. You may be feeling sluggish because you’re actually thirsty. Our bodies, and especially our brains are largely made up of water, so a 5% drop in body fluids can cause a 25% loss of energy. Always have water available, and snack on fruits and vegetables throughout the day to stay hydrated.
  • Manage your distractions. All the little things that pull at you each day can really be draining. Phone calls, employee gossip, and errands can easily get in the way of your focus. Be careful not to let these small distractions take over your day, or at least group them all into manageable chunks of time.
  • Commit to working for just 10 minutes. If you’re having trouble getting the ball rolling, just give it 10 minutes with the promise that once the time is up. you can stop and take a break if you feel like you need it. Chances are, you’ll get great work done in that 10 minutes, and you may not even feel like you need to stop!
  • Clean your workspace. A cluttered desk can really be draining, and a great way to get a quick pick me up is by going on a cleaning blitz. Take a few minutes to organize piles of paper, throw away unnecessary items, and wipe down surfaces. You’ll feel refreshed, and your workspace will, too.
