Business Term to Know: SEC

Football season has begun again, but this term is not about the Southeastern Conference. The SEC, in this case, stands for the Securities and Exchange Commission. This SEC is the primary federal agency governing the securities industry. The commission was formed in 1934 and enforces securities laws, regulates the securities industry, along with the stock and options exchanges in the U.S. Much like the Southeastern Conference in college football, the SEC runs the show.
