College Entrepreneurs’ Shot at $1 Million –

Entrepreneurs attending college in Michigan have the opportunity to win more than $1 million in cash prizes as part of the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition, an international business contest designed to promote entrepreneurial growth in Michigan’s business community.

Students with innovative ideas and aspirations of entrepreneurship who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in a Michigan college or university for fall 2012 are encouraged to apply. The winners will be awarded at the competition and awards gala Nov. 15.

“We in Michigan take extreme pride in our higher education system, especially the impact our students are having on driving innovation and entrepreneurship in the state,” Jeff Mason, executive director for the University Research Corridor, said in a press release. “Our students are essential to Michigan pushing forward as the driving force behind high-tech innovation in the Midwest. With the help of Accelerate Michigan, the world’s next big entrepreneurial stars may very well rise from the likes of East Lansing, Ann Arbor or Detroit.”

The judging panel will include experts from investment firms, various businesses and universities, as well as local and national investors and venture capitalists.

The deadline for student submissions is Sept. 27. Eligibility information is available on the Accelerate Michigan’s website.
