UniversityNow Acquires Patten U’s Degree –

UniversityNow announced Monday that it will acquire Patten University, a four-year private, not-for-profit school, in order to offer flat-rate degrees online, beginning this fall.

Based in California, UniversityNow operates a network of universities that provide affordable tuition in hopes of addressing the challenges of college cost, access, and completion rates for adult learners.

Earlier this year, UniversityNow launched New Charter University, the first school in its network of affordable, accredited universities. New Charter University is nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council. The school is currently enrolling students seeking associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in its online degree programs in business, and will introduce online degree programs in public policy and administration, and criminal justice later this year.

As part of the plan, Patten and New Charter established a new dual-admission degree pathway through which students at New Charter University can transfer to Patten’s online degree program and earn a regionally accredited degree for less than $8,000.

Supporters of this initiative hope the flat-rate tuition model will eliminate the need for federal financial aid for working adults, who have the fastest-growing student loan debts.

Patten University is regionally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
